What does stress feel like in my body?

As humans, we don’t typically experience only one emotion at a time. We experience many emotions at once and all have unique ways of expressing them.

This emotion wheel below shows how certain physical responses may correspond to certain emotions.

You may find that some sensations described may not attribute to the emotions that you are experiencing. And that is completely fine. This guide tries to bring your awareness to the physical experience of an unpleasant or uncomfortable emotional experience and that is what we are referring to as stress in this context.

  • Using the above information and your own reflection from the previous task.

  • Try and identify if and how you experience stress in the body. You may find that as you think of certain events/news you encountered over the week, your body may be continuing to respond to it.

  • Make a note of these responses in your journal.

If you need to ground yourself or feel a little better after this, go back to the self-care practice we first described at the start of this section- Click here!
