1.4: How Thoughts, Feeling and Behaviour are Related

Experiencing stress triggers causes the body to release hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. These hormones heighten arousal, making us more reactive. Depending on how we interpret the stressor, this can lead to emotional responses like anxiety, frustration, sadness, or anger. Chronic stress can also make emotions harder to regulate, leading to mood swings or burnout.

Before we delve into becoming aware of our emotional responses, let’s first understand how our thoughts, feelings and actions are interrelated.

Our emotional responses are shaped by how we perceive a situation. It is our beliefs, not just the event itself that shape these emotional and behavioural responses.

We will be using this concept as we go through this module. Try to be aware of how your feelings arise when you experience/encounter something
